    Frequently asked questions

    Questions about shutter fittings

Screw-in thumbscrews are screwed into the window frame or wall and provide additional depth adjustment options. Plate-mounted thumbs are fixed to the wall — ideal if you do not wish to mount them on the window frame. Both types use a upvc thumb pin, ensuring the shutter turns smoothly. Find out more about thumbs.
A shutter hinge consists of two parts: the thumb (attached to the wall or window frame) and the pin (on the shutter). Which one you need depends on where you are fitting it, the weight and the material of your shutter. Use our fittings guide or ask us for advice.
For wooden shutters that you wish to close, a centre latch is the most common choice: it ensures a neat, secure closure. The latch can also be used to lock the shutters into the window sill or the brickwork. View shutter latches.
With shutter fasteners. Choose from concealed shutter fasteners (invisible, with a filler piece if required), classic shepherd’s hooks, or hooks that allow larger shutters to remain open at an angle. View shutter fasteners.
Internal operation is possible for a number of shutter types, such as combination shutters. We’d be happy to discuss whether this is possible for your shutters and window frames. Please get in touch for advice.
