A panel shutter is a wooden exterior shutter with one or more closed surfaces. Unlike a louvre shutter, where adjustable slats regulate light incidence, a panel shutter has a solid, closed surface. This makes it the most robust and sleek choice within our range of wooden shutters.
You choose the panel layout yourself. In the single-panel version, each shutter consists of one continuous surface. In the multi-panel version, horizontal bars divide the shutter into two, three or more smaller panels. The latter variant is particularly popular for taller windows, as the shutter layout gives balance to the appearance.
Aluminium and upvc panel shutters are low-maintenance. But on a facade where ambience, warmth and character play a role, solid wood is a different story. Wood reacts to light and shade in a way that aluminium cannot match. The structure of the wood gives the panel depth and a liveliness that belongs in historic buildings, country houses and homes with a warm feel.
Besides its visual benefits, solid wood also absorbs heat and cold. A closed wooden panel shutter keeps heat out in summer and limits heat loss through windows in winter. It also dampens sound better than thin alternatives.

It depends on the height of your window and the desired look. For windows up to about 120 cm high, a single panel works well. For higher windows, we generally recommend a two- or three-panel layout, so that the shutter remains visually in proportion to the façade. We will advise you on this during the fitting visit.
Yes. Some of our customers choose permanently fitted panel shutters that enhance the façade without daily use. We then adapt the fastening and hardware to that application.
Accoya or meranti wooden shutters will last for decades if maintained properly. We supply sprayed or pre-impregnated shutters and advise you on maintenance: regular cleaning and periodic re-treatment are sufficient to keep the shutters durable.
